Veterinary Student Research Bursary

Investigating Pig Health & Welfare | Developing Future Specialists

The Pig Veterinary Society (PVS) is dedicated to supporting the next generation of veterinary surgeons. We are pleased to offer an annual research bursary designed to provide financial support and mentorship for veterinary students interested in the pig sector.

Whether based at a University, a Veterinary Practice, or the APHA, this bursary offers a unique opportunity for a veterinary student working towards a degree registrable with the RCVS to lead a research project that contributes to the health and welfare of pigs.

Why Apply?

Funding: A total award of £2,000 to support your project. Flexibility: Funds can be used for student travel, subsistence, and legitimate project expenses. Networking and mentorship: Includes access to the PVS and host organisation networks for mentorship and advice. Successful bursary holders may be invited to a PVS Scientific Meeting to present their results to industry leaders. Career Development: Gain valuable research experience

Project Scope

Focus: Projects must seek to improve the health or welfare of pigs. Duration: Projects should be feasible for completion within 12 months. Host: You must have a Named Supervisor at a host organisation (e.g. Vet School, Private Practice, APHA or other) that can receive funds and oversee the work.

How to Apply

Before starting, please read the full Guidance Notes for Applicants & Host Organisations to ensure your project meets the criteria. Identify an organisation and a supervisor willing to support your research and handle the fund disbursement. Complete the Application Form (including a 750-word summary of your background, methods, and budget) and email it to the PVS Student Liaison Officer.
