October 2008
Dr. TJL Alexander 1930 - 2008
Members of the Pig Veterinary Society, friends and colleagues world-wide were saddened to learn of the unexpected death of Tom Alexander, a past President and an Honorary Member of the Society, on October 1, 2008.
Tom, aged 77 and a retired member of Faculty at the University of Cambridge Veterinary School, will be sadly missed by many across the world.
Tom was known internationally for his research on porcine infectious diseases and for the development of disease control methods in pigs.
To quote a long standing colleague, Tom was a pioneering leader in modern pig medicine, 'a true great, in all senses, of our profession, and a teacher who inspired many of us'. Above even this, he will be remembered for his warmth, friendship and willing support.
Our thoughts are with Tom's family and friends at this time.
Following a private funeral there will be a Memorial Service on Tuesday 14th October at 2.30pm at the Wolfson College, Barton Road, Cambridge, CB3 9BB. Donations, if desired, can be made to the Injured Jockeys Fund or Help The Aged.
